Responsibilities
- Deliver quality personal care to each of our residents.
- Assist residents with daily activities including bathing, toileting, dressing, and ensuring optimum independence, dignity, and respect.
- Encourage those with difficulty eating or swallowing to enjoy their meal in a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
- Assist people with restricted mobility to move to other areas of the Home for social activities and stimulation and to the privacy of their bedrooms at their request.
- Regularly attend to residents with reduced continence control, ensuring all personal hygiene needs are met; toileting, changing continence pads, and removing wet or soiled clothing to keep residents comfortable and reduce the risk of skin deterioration.
- Carry out care activities in accordance with the care plan for less active residents, particularly turning and moving to reduce the risk of pressure sore development, as requested by the person in charge.
- Ensure bedroom areas are kept tidy, pleasant and comfortable by making beds, regularly changing bed linen and emptying commodes and cleaning.
- Be responsible for the regular cleaning of any equipment involved in personal care, including commodes and wheelchairs.
- Practice safe systems of work across the range of tasks, especially moving and handling, by assessing risk and respecting personal safety and the safety of residents, visitors, and colleagues.
- Understand personal responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work legislation, particularly moving and handling people and fire safety and evacuation procedures.
- Act courteously towards residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each person and ensuring they feel ‘at home’.
- Contribute fully to the team, responding positively to colleagues and actioning all reasonable work instructions promptly, and record interactions on the personal care software.
- Take good care of equipment used to carry out tasks, maintaining general cleanliness and advising on faults or the need for maintenance or replacement.
- Be responsible for the safe and tidy storage of supplies and equipment.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Develop relationships with relatives to help support residents better.
