Water Utility Company based in the Yorkshire region of England.
Location: Base location is Elvington, York, but the role will require travel around the East Yorkshire area.
Work Type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Standby is a requirement for this role.

As a Technical Support Scientist you will deliver world class asset and operational excellence in pursuit of health and safety excellence; regulatory compliance; operational integrity and resilience; operational efficiency and business plan out performance. You will transform water Quality into a safe, integrated, productive and reliable entity. Drive significant improvements in productivity through improved ways of working and consistent application of IT and technology and regulations.
Where You Fit In: As our Technical Support Scientist you will:
- Verify and investigate asset shortfalls through the Company business risk process, ensuring the challenge process is followed and appropriate issues are promoted to solution phase.
- Recommend engineering solutions to asset problems where appropriate.
- Provide cover for the WQ Technical Manager when required.
- Provide technical expertise to the field team for production/distribution processes and procedures and for the contribution to and the resolution of problems.
- Provide risk assessments and advice.
- Resolve high priority, complex and emergency problems, using external resources where necessary.
- Provide operational knowledge and leadership into Company Strategies and the planning and delivery of the capital programme.
- Investigate all regulatory compliance failures and near misses.
- Provide recommendations for resolution.
- Be key contact for the Production, Distribution and CX-PEX teams for asset/customer related compliance shortfalls.
- Ensure WQ risks and (present and emerging) are managed on production and distribution sites.
- Work with external bodies including the Regulators to ensure Regulatory compliance. 100% compliance 100% of the time.
- Ensure the WQ risk processes relating to asset operation are understood and managed to prevent regulatory and Company compliance failures and to aid in the demonstration of risk management processes to the Regulators.
- Provide technical support in the management of incidents and 'near misses' relating to water production and distribution assets.
- Provide technical support in the management of complex customer cases.
- Produce incident reports and recommendations for consideration, with ability to influence other areas of business.
What Skills & Qualifications You Will Need:
- Detailed knowledge and experience of Water Quality, including the Regulations.
- Develops and maintains effective internal and external relationships.
- Experience of supporting and embedding change, able to influence and drive the right culture and behaviours.
- Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.
- Understanding of WTW production and distribution processes.
- Analytical and fault diagnosis of treatment/distribution processes.
- Experience in incident management, and asset failure recovery.
- Experience in incident report writing and communication with Regulators.
- Influencing & negotiating.
- Encourages customer centric thinking.
- Rigorous attention to detail to ensure 'right first time' performance.
- Full Clean UK Driving Licence.
- Proficient in the use of IT.

- Degree or similar in an appropriate science.
- Previous experience in a regulated environment.
- Previous experience gained within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors.
