Location & Work Type

Location: Opportunities for Process Operators to join the Process team at Yorkshire Water. Roles cover sites in and around the Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough areas. Applicants should live within a reasonable commuting distance of the above areas.

Work type: Permanent. You’ll be working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday within a 07:00 to 18:00 working window. Out of hours, weekend working, and bank holidays will be part of a structured work pattern. Once fully trained you will be assessed for working on your own and may be required to participate in an out-of-hours standby rota (evenings, weekends, and overnight callouts). You will be expected to work some weekends; flexibility outside core hours is essential.

Your Role

As our Process Operator you will work as part of an operational team to deliver exceptional performance against targets while ensuring regulatory compliance and driving customer confidence. You will undertake reactive and proactive site visits to ensure our most critical assets meet regulatory compliance, protecting the environment and maintaining service for customers. You will take personal responsibility for health and safety, and will contribute to compliance with Yorkshire Water\’s Health and Safety policies, undertaking basic grounds maintenance, site tasks, site maintenance and general housekeeping duties.

Your Duties Will Include

  • Reacting to RTS alarms and pollution incidents
  • Gathering evidence at suspected pollution incidents
  • Lifting, checking, and unblocking pumps
  • Taking samples, examining the results, and troubleshooting issues impacting sample results
  • Raising follow-on work for internal support services

What Skills, Experience And Training You Will Need

  • Full training on all mandatory courses will be provided; a company van, tools, equipment, Toughbook, mobile phone, sat nav and all corporate clothing will be provided.
  • Practical mindset, enjoy working outdoors in all weathers, and be comfortable with a hands-on approach to work tasks.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team in all weathers; a resilient self-starter with good time management and the ability to manage your own workload.
  • Willingness to question unsafe practices and report them to management.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication skills and positive attitude and behaviours.
  • Previous experience of using IT systems (e.g., Word) is essential as you will capture site information on a Toughbook.
  • A full valid UK driving licence is required (no more than 6 points).

This role has a requirement to carry out occasional work in confined spaces; the successful completion of a medical performed by our Occupational Health Department and the relevant training course is essential. The successful candidate must pass medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure safety when working in hazardous environments.
