Overview

Network Operations Technician position in the Yorkshire Water Customer Field Services department. Location: Bradford area, West Yorkshire. Permanent, full-time role with 40-hour rotating patterns (4 on/4 off). Flexible hours including late, early, and weekend work; standby may be required after training.

Salary and Benefits

Salary from £30,384 to £37,880 (based on 40-hour week). Annual incentive bonus up to £1,000 (performance year). Responsibilities

  • Deliver first-time fix and same-day solutions to customer and environmental problems on the sewer network.
  • Maintain the sewerage network proactively and reactively to prevent sewage escapes, floods, and pollution.
  • Work as part of a geographically-based field team to improve customer service and waste network performance.
  • Ensure correct site setup and complete POWRA before and during jobs; identify risks and implement corrective/preventive actions to stay safe.
  • Investigate sewer system issues, collate data, and support other operational teams with investigations into asset problems.
  • Operate different vehicle types as required by workload and availability.
  • Use IT systems to capture site information, feedback, and evidence (including photos and plans).
  • May install/maintain Customer Sewer Alarms and collaborate with third-party providers as needed.
  • Ensure health and safety practices are followed; consider cost-effective resolutions while delivering first-time fixes.
  • Work with Yorkshire Water teams and contracted partners to resolve on-site operational issues.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Practical mindset; enjoy outdoor work in all weather; hands-on approach to tasks.
  • Experience in a customer service role with face-to-face customer interaction.
  • Ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships and influence outcomes.
  • Comfort in reporting unsafe practices and contributing to safe work environments.
  • Excellent communication skills to capture, evidence, feedback, and deliver against targets; able to diagnose faults and determine root causes.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and basic IT skills; able to use internal IT systems on a Toughbook.
  • Willingness to work varied rotas and participate in an out-of-hours standby rota after training.
  • Full valid driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and pass medical criteria (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, spirometry) for safe operation in hazardous environments.

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of sewerage systems and performance issues; familiarity with IT systems used in Yorkshire Water; experience in water, wastewater, utilities, process, or manufacturing sectors is a plus.
