Overview
Network Operations Technician – Water Utility Company based in Yorkshire region of England.
Location: Malton area in North Yorkshire. Work type: permanent, 40-hour rotational patterns on a 4 on/4 off basis (no standby included), including late, early and weekend work. You will be a field-based technician in a geographical team working to improve customer service and wastewater network performance.

Where you fit in
As our Network Operation Technician, you will deliver a first-time fix and same-day solution to customer and environmental problems and deliver the asset plan for network maintenance to eliminate escapes. You will ensure a first-time fix for customers and the environment, with quality follow-on work raised to standards and specifications. Ensure correct site setup and POWRA completion prior to and during jobs; identify risks and undertake corrective or preventive activity to stay safe at all times.
You will safely and proactively maintain the sewerage network to resolve and prevent sewage escapes (flooding and pollution). You will work closely with Yorkshire Water teams and contracted partners on site to resolve operational issues. You may operate different vehicle types depending on availability and task.
You will undertake thorough investigations on the sewerage system to resolve issues and prevent repeat contacts, and support other teams with investigations into sewer asset problems. You will use IT systems to collate information and provide feedback, and you will collate data for evidence capture, including assessing photographs and plans and reporting any escapes or issues. You may maintain and install Customer Sewer Alarms and work with third-party providers where needed. Health and safety practices must be followed at all times.
When making day-to-day decisions you will demonstrate financial awareness and provide technical support and first-line response to customers to ensure a fix-first-time resolution and cost-effective outcomes.
Essential requirements / Skills & Qualifications
- Practical mindset; enjoy working outdoors in all weathers; hands-on approach to tasks.
- Previous experience in a customer service-related role with face-to-face communication.
- Ability to develop and maintain internal and external working relationships; able to influence outcomes and make decisions.
- Prepared to question unsafe practices and report to management.
- Excellent communication skills; able to capture, evidence and feedback information; influence outcomes and meet challenging targets.
- Ability to diagnose root causes and find faults; rational problem-solving skills; basic IT skills to use internal systems.
- Willing to work various rotas and participate in out-of-hours standby when trained; flexibility essential.
- Must pass medical criteria for confined spaces (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, Spirometry).
- Full valid driving licence required (no more than 6 points).
