Maintenance Technician (Pumping)

Location
We have an opportunity for Maintenance Technicians in the Pumping department at Yorkshire Water. The role will cover the North Yorkshire region; preferred applicants living in Harrogate, Colburn, Thirsk, Ripon, and Northallerton.
Work Type
Permanent. 37 hours per week. Full training and assessment for independent working. Expected to participate in out‑of‑hours standby rota (one week in every 8) and occasional weekend work (one weekend in every 8 weeks).
About the Role
The Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the reliability and safety of wastewater pumping and treatment assets. Responsibilities include:
- Safely carry out mechanical maintenance tasks to increase asset availability.
- Respond to asset alarms within priority timescales, undertake fault finding/diagnostics and steps to resolve, including basic mechanical tasks.
- When faced with complex asset issues, raise work for mechanical fitters/electricians, detailing works carried out & assessment of the problem.
- Proactively raise mitigation requests to avoid/manage pollution incidents.
- Control work as an authorised person: ensure safe systems of work are in place for third‑party work (permit writing).
- Ensure all tasks follow regulatory requirements.
- Use asset data proactively to carry out tasks and anticipate issues.
Skills & Qualifications
- Practical mindset, enjoys working outdoors in all weathers, comfortable taking a hands‑on approach.
- Safety related training & qualifications: confined spaces, working at heights, lone worker, COSHH, manual handling, control of works.
- Relevant task competence training: pumping theory, Xylem, Hidrostal, Valves, DSEAR, hot works safe systems of work.
- Willingness to work towards a Level 2/3 Certificate in Mechanical or Engineering discipline.
- Full valid driving licence (no more than 6 points).
- Ability to work in confined spaces; must pass strict medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, spirometry.
- Flexible attitude to cover 24/7 working window.
