Location: This is a regional role, so base location will depend on successful candidates home address. Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Flexibility is required as you will participate in the stand-by rota once you are fully competent.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Grid Engineer to join the Water Distribution team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.
What We Do
We provide essential water and wastewater services to the Yorkshire region, looking after communities and the environment in a way that supports health, wellbeing, and prosperity. The Yorkshire Water Grid is a high-level treated water transmission system that moves bulk volumes of water throughout the region to ensure water resource allocation plans are met and Water Treatment Works (WTW) outages are supported as required, as economically as possible. The asset base comprises pumping stations, storage facilities and large diameter transmission mains that require monitoring, maintenance and management with support from ER, central control, the wider business and third-party contractors.
As a Grid Engineer it will be your responsibility to be at the heart of the process, facilitating work, liaising with contractors and proactively taking ownership of the asset base to ensure it meets its regulatory and operational requirements.
Where You Fit In
- You will be in a Field-based role so you will be required to undertake Health and Safety training appropriate to your role, such as control of work and confined space entry.
- You will be required to learn all aspects of Grid operations and the proactive maintenance of Grid pumping stations and transmission mains by applying an awareness of the principles of the water treatment process and hydraulics.
- You will understand how the Reservoir Safety Act applies to critical Grid reservoirs and you will apply this knowledge to undertake routine measurements and surveillance of key service reservoirs and update corporate databases as necessary.
- You will need to develop and grow Field and central relationships critical for conducting your role. This will enable you to recognise how the Grid operates and links into the wider Yorkshire Water supply network. You will be competent in how the Production planning process is applied and the importance of complying with WRAP targets.
- You will need to have a good understanding of our telemetry alarm systems and associated processes. You will be trained in using RTS & SCADA systems to run reports & trends to assist in fault finding/testing to assist with operational incidents by producing information to relevant departments.
- You will operate within the framework of IMS procedures, administer and audit site specific databases and IT systems to maintain and update records.
Flexibility is required as you will participate in the stand-by rota once you are fully competent.

- Proficient knowledge of corporate systems, in particular, safeguard, RTS, IMS and Odyssey.
- Knowledge of YW risk policy and process.
- Regulatory Awareness.
- Rigorous attention to detail to ensure right first time performance.
- Strong understanding and awareness of Health & Safety in the workplace.
- A full valid UK driving licence is a requirement of this role.
