CUP Ceramics Community

We're growing into a thriving ceramics community, and looking to refresh our Board of Non Executive Directors to guide the organisation into its next super impactful phase!

We're looking for a chairperson, a treasurer, a health and safety lead, and a secretary.

What difference will you make?

As a Non Executive Director at CUP Ceramics, you'll have great impact! Rural communities face unique challenges and at CUP we are combatting that by providing access to third spaces and craft to those that need it the most. We'll be expanding our space to enable us to build the community even further in this next period, as well as sourcing funding to install solar power to reduce our kiln firing impact. You'll enable development of our team, as your skills and experience will keep us on track, driving us forward, and spreading the word about the work that we do.

What are we looking for?

As a NED at CUP, you will have a positive impact on a growing community space that values inclusive high quality art and craft education and creation. The team will deliver on your input and guidance for direction and strategy. You will help us to develop new ways to achieve our goals. You'll also ensure that we comply with legislation. As a CIC we are bound by expectations that we must deliver upon, with policy and procedures in place to support our work.

Desired skills and experience

  • A passion for crafts and an understanding of its benefits
  • Openness to sharing skills, knowledge, and expertise
  • Ability to share the appropriate workload
  • Commitment to the community and its growth
  • Accountancy / financial strategy knowledge / experience
  • Secretarial / Administrative knowledge / experience
  • Health and Safety management knowledge / experience
  • Fundraising and marketing knowledge

We need those who are experienced or want to gain more experience in a non executive director role. We are refreshing our board to gain new insight, skills, and knowledge. We are particularly interested in recruiting those under 30, people of colour, and from lower socioeconomic backgrounds to diversify the range of experiences we can draw from to improve how we serve our rural community.

This is an unpaid voluntary role.

Key available positions

  • Chairperson – someone to lead and facilitate meetings
  • Treasurer – to provide financial oversight and compliance advice
  • Health and Safety lead – to review and report on H&S risks and mitigation
  • Secretary – to provide administrative assistance to the board and MD

What will you be doing?

Would you like a role in shaping the future of Herefordshire’s only community interest ceramics studio? Join our board as we step forward into our next phase of development, driving the growth of a locally appreciated third space that combats social isolation, provides access to the arts for marginalised groups and prioritises local creative youth retention.

After 10 years, we're looking to refresh and professionalise our Board, so you'll be working alongside a fresh, passionate, and creative team of trustees, and our driven MD Colin Hamilton to provide support and direction for our future.

Internal priorities for 2026/27

  • Build unrestricted reserve to 15% of annual turnover
  • Boost annual grant income by 25%
  • Build our partnership with Arts Council England
  • Improve our environmental practices and educate our community
  • Improve accessibility throughout all aspects of our onsite and offsite services

Impact projects for 2026/27

  • Scale up our free after school club ‘Creative Youth’
  • Reach 20 marginalised young people and 1000+ general public through our ‘Sculpting Stories from the Soil’ community arts project
  • Increase social impact by 50% through mezzanine space expansion
  • Reduce kiln-firing environmental impact (and costs)

We're a really passionate and energetic team, who work closely with the core staff team (5 people). We're relaxed, friendly and a very inclusive community.
