Cundall is recruiting a Graduate Structural Engineer in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. This role starts in September 2026 and offers an opportunity to work across a variety of exciting building projects within a global practice.
Join our Structures team to contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions throughout the lifecycle of each project, with a pro-active and collaborative approach to skill development and professional excellence.
The Role You’ll Play
As a Graduate Structural Engineer, you’ll work with our Structural Engineering team on the design of construction projects in the UK and internationally. You’ll provide specialist consultancy input across a wide range of sectors, collaborating with colleagues across a multidisciplinary practice.
You’ll be guided by a team of expert engineers to carry out conceptual as well as detailed structural design and analysis, using maths, science and problem-solving skills to design inspiring and sustainable structures. You’ll translate client needs into designs for buildings, infrastructure, facilities and services with sustainability at the forefront. Over time you may assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy, supported by accredited professional development programmes toward Chartership.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to conceptual and detailed structural design and analysis for a range of building projects.
- Translate client requirements into efficient and sustainable structural designs.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Develop technical and professional skills with opportunities for Chartered status through recognised schemes (IStructE or ICE).
- Engage in ongoing professional development and apply best-practice engineering standards.
Qualifications
- On target to achieve at least a 2:1/2:2 degree (as specified by the employer);
- Desirable: accredited with or on track to achieve a BEng/MEng degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Interest in structural design and analysis for the built environment with a passion for creative and intuitive design;
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and a desire for personal and professional development;
- Understanding of digital engineering concepts (Parametric Modelling Techniques such as Grasshopper or Dynamo) or proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, C#).;
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines;
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with internal and external stakeholders.
