This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring Building Services Engineer to join our London office to learn what it takes to design building services on exciting built environment projects in the UK and worldwide. You will learn and develop skills to design a range of building services including heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting, power, fire protection, drainage and hydraulics, with sustainability at the forefront. You will participate in design decisions, attend meetings, visit construction sites and interact with architects, project managers, cost consultants, contractors and other engineers. You will learn to use drawing and calculation software such as 3D Revit, BlueBeam, IES, Trimble's Amtech, DIALux evo, Hevacomp and CYMAP. You will study for appropriate academic qualifications at London South Bank University and, beyond the apprenticeship, receive support towards achieving chartership status with IET, CIBSE or IMechE, with long-term opportunities for a rewarding career.
Responsibilities
- Assist with mechanical and electrical building services engineering design and analysis (training provided on the latest digital design tools).
- Help define and translate client requirements into workable designs for a broad range of buildings (sports facilities, hotels, offices, schools, universities, airports, theatres, art galleries, residential and retail spaces).
- Learn to design heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting, power, fire protection, drainage, hydraulics and related building services, with a sustainability focus.
- Participate in design decisions, attend internal and external meetings, visit construction sites and engage with architects, project managers, cost consultants, contractors and other engineers.
- Learn to use drawing and calculation software (e.g., Revit, BlueBeam, IES, Amtech, DIALux evo, Hevacomp, CYMAP).
- Develop technical engineering skills on real-life projects four days a week, with one day allocated to study for appropriate qualifications.
- Potential progression towards chartership status with relevant professional bodies (IET, CIBSE or IMechE).
Qualifications
- A Level BBC – Mathematics required, science preferred (UCAS points: 112).
- T-level (Merit or above) in Construction: Design, Surveying And Planning (UCAS points: 120).
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma DDM in an Engineering subject area, with minimum merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics (UCAS points: 128).
- BTEC Level 3 National Diploma DD in an Engineering subject area, with minimum merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics (UCAS points: 112).
- Building Services Engineering Technician Level 3 apprenticeship DD (UCAS points: 96) alongside grade Pass or Distinction at EPA. PlanBee scheme participants also eligible for this course.
- 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).
- During studies/work experience, a keen interest in engineering or construction is expected.
- Additional relevant qualifications and industry experience are welcome.
- Communication skills, attention to detail, organisation, analytical and teamwork abilities.
