This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and client‑focused Mechanical Building Services expert to join our team at our office in Newcastle, to play a leading role in ensuring the successful delivery of innovative mechanical design solutions for some of the most exciting building projects in the UK, Ireland and across the globe. Working across a variety of sectors such as Commercial, Education, Mission Critical, Aviation, Masterplanning and Retail, you will lead a team of engineers and technicians, and work closely with colleagues of various disciplines to manage the delivery of technically‑excellent, profitable projects. You will develop new and nurture existing client relationships that maximise satisfaction and ensure repeat business, and will use your wealth of expertise and determination to manage, motivate and inspire less experienced engineers. Your role will be fully supported by senior management staff, across all disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and delivery of projects across a range of sectors
- Develop mechanical system designs including HVAC, chilled water, natural and ventilation systems
- Produce and review mechanical schematics, reports, specifications, and equipment layouts
- Manage and mentor a team of mechanical and electrical engineers, overseeing design quality, performance, and development
- Coordinate closely with other disciplines to deliver fully integrated and efficient design solutions
- Act as a primary point of contact for clients, building long‑term relationships and repeat business
- Review and approve designs to ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and client specifications
- Contribute to and support internal project management processes including fee tracking, progress monitoring, and programme delivery
- Provide strategic input on design direction, energy efficiency, and sustainability measures
- Participate in site inspections, technical meetings, commissioning activities, and post‑occupancy reviews
The Skills
A Chartered Engineer, educated to degree level in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (MEng or BEng or equivalent) having gained vast engineering consultancy experience in a Mechanical Engineering role within a building services context (environmental control and all systems related to delivering this), you have proven your technical expertise in relevant design software, and have a portfolio of experience demonstrating your quality and client focussed approach. In your most recent position you have consistently demonstrated your ability to manage multiple large scale projects and teams to deliver to, and exceed client expectations, and crucially – you have a passion for creative and intuitive design. Given the collaborative and client focused nature of this role, excellent communication and project management skills are essential.
