We are looking for a talented Associate Counsel to join our team specializing in Law for Cummins London, United Kingdom. The position carries a wide range of in‑house legal responsibilities, including the review of commercial contracts, engagement in general business counseling, provision of legal advice, support for business training, management of external counsel when required, and handling of a variety of legal matters or projects across a wide range of business functions and subject matters appropriate to the candidate’s level of capability and experience. The position will be based in London, U.K., with at least three days per week working from the office.
Impact
- Provide legal support for the European Distribution Business segment, working closely with the Lead Lawyer in‑region.
- Advise on a wide range of in‑house legal responsibilities, primarily focused on commercial work, including contracts, projects, corporate and M&A transactions, while also supporting compliance matters and other areas as needed.
- Negotiate complex commercial sales and project contracts, particularly relating to the supply of power generation equipment and solutions to datacenters across European jurisdictions.
- Provide legal support to Corporate Development on M&A, working closely with M&A Lead Lawyers and external counsel to advise on cross‑border acquisitions, joint ventures and disposals.
- Partner with compliance, engineering, procurement and ESG to implement regulatory requirements, improve internal controls and provide legal advice on product and materials compliance, including chemical, environmental and sustainability regulations.
- Share in management of outside counsel relationships.
- Act as a trusted advisor for business stakeholders, building professional experience and learning the practical aspects of applied law as well as the functions of the business.
- Provide support or contribute to overall objectives and goals of the organization.
- Provide support to legal department projects.
- Handle some claims and litigation management in collaboration with the global litigation team.
Qualifications
- Primary experience and background in corporate and commercial law, and comfort in supporting a wide variety of legal and compliance matters impacting business and operations across Europe.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial project agreements (e.g., EPC contracts or consortium agreements) or M&A and corporate transactions is beneficial and preferred but not essential.
- Willingness and ability to take on a generalist role, handling a broad range of legal issues such as supply chain, ESG and compliance matters, with a strong focus on service and partnership with business teams.
- Ability to think critically and make clear, well‑reasoned decisions.
- Ability to identify and mitigate risks in a timely manner to keep the organization moving forward.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and activities in a busy global environment.
- Strong personal and professional integrity, business ethics, a commitment to diversity and respect for others.

Education / Experience
- Minimum 2:1 Undergraduate degree (or equivalent).
- Legal Practice Certificate (U.K. only) or license to practice in another jurisdiction.
- Registered with the relevant Law Society or legal regulatory body.
- Extended qualified experience in substantive corporate/commercial or project law practice, either in‑house or in private practice.
- Strong English language skills; knowledge of another European language and experience working across multiple European jurisdictions is an advantage.
