We are looking for a talented Controls Technician to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for the Controls Department in Darlington, UK. This is a permanent on‑site role, working 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8am–4:30pm) with possible shift work depending on workload and business needs.
Responsibilities
- Apply high standards of workmanship and craftsmanship.
- Support equipment failure analysis.
- Perform work in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and specifications using various tools, measuring and testing instruments.
- Ensure relevant documents and quality procedures are updated and act as a resource to provide help to others.
- Support projects to improve Safety, Quality and Throughput.
- Liaise with contractors to integrate automated machines with existing equipment and systems.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of IT, PLCs, systems networking.
- Significant work experience and in‑depth knowledge from specialized training and relevant experience.
- Providing support for the interface between MES and our PLC network.
- Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
- Making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.
- Demonstrating knowledge of manufacturing by correctly implementing changes in current processes, equipment, and applications to meet function needs and contribute toward continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with vision systems for quality traceability, including basic configuration, setup of server gateways and cameras, and troubleshooting connectivity to support manufacturing quality processes.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts, such as architectures like fiber rings, Purdue models for controls OT networks to link with enterprise IT systems.
- Hands‑on experience with server‑based data collection and analysis software, ability to troubleshoot application issues, manage data ingestion/storage, and ensure reliable data flow from OT hardware including PLCs, DC tooling, cameras, robots, cobots, and AMRs.
- Demonstrated proficiency in SCADA systems, with the ability to design and implement projects integrating controls, data acquisition, and visualization to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or similar in Electrical/Electronics, Mechatronics, Controls or IT support or a related subject.
