We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our European Technical Organisation (ETO) to support our engineering functions based at Cummins Darlington. This role is a four‑year apprenticeship that involves rotating across various engineering functions. It offers the opportunity to complete practical and theory‑based work while completing an Engineering Manufacturing Technician (Level 4) Apprenticeship. You will learn how a major global organisation operates, gaining the tools and exposure you need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential!
Summary of the Course
The apprenticeship spans four years, rotating through different engineering departments to maximise learning. The candidate completes practical and theory‑based work alongside the Engineering Manufacturing Technician (Level 4) apprenticeship programme. During employment, the apprentice will have daytime releases to college (New College Durham) – the duration of the release will be subject to prior learning.
Working hours: Monday‑Thursday 08:00‑16:30 with a 30‑minute lunch break and Friday 08:00‑13:30. Candidates must be able to travel to the education provider throughout the apprenticeship term.
Responsibilities
- Rotate through several ETO departments, developing an understanding of Cummins’ European Technical Organisation.
- Support the design and development of new engine platforms.
- Assist with engine quality and regulatory testing.
- Contribute to engine assembly processes.
- Communicate project updates to the wider team.
- Maintain documentation for personal performance and development objectives.
Qualifications
- Mathematics at GCSE grade 6 or above, Science at GCSE grade 6 or above (if separate sciences: Physics 6, Chemistry 5, Biology 5) and English at GCSE grade 5 or above.
- Average grade of 5 across remaining core subjects.
- BTEC Engineering Level 3 (desirable but not essential).
- A passion for learning and personal development.
