Overall Purpose Of Job

To be an outstanding teacher and tutor who challenges and supports all your students to do their best and achieve their potential by inspiring trust and confidence, building team commitment, engaging and motivating students, developing and delivering exciting projects, taking positive action to improve learning, and ensuring good student outcomes.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the teaching of the subject and stay informed of relevant curriculum developments.
  • Teach students according to their particular needs, planning, differentiating, preparing and assessing work in line with UTC policies.
  • Assist in the smooth delivery of the subject area as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Implement and maintain good classroom management and follow UTC policies for behaviour management.
  • Plan lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students’ individual learning needs.
  • Use a range of appropriate strategies and follow UTC policies for tutoring, teaching and behaviour management.
  • Assess, monitor and record the progress of students; provide constructive feedback, targets, advice and report progress to parents/carers.
  • Ensure students achieve progress relative to their prior attainment and at least as well as similar students nationally.
  • Take responsibility for personal professional development and apply outcomes to improve tutoring, teaching and learning.
  • Contribute to the policies, aspirations and plans of the year, curriculum/student performance team and the UTC.
  • Lead a subject‑specific enrichment activity timetabled into the curriculum.
  • Contribute to extra‑curricular activities.
  • Act as a form tutor and provide pastoral support for a group of students.

Other Specific Duties

  • Continue personal professional development as required.
  • Understand the implications of the Freedom of Information Act, the Data Protection Act and other legislation to ensure confidentiality of records and information.
  • Attend staff and other meetings and participate in staff training and development events as required.
  • Actively engage in the performance review process.
  • Adhere to UTC policies and procedures relating to Child Protection, Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety.
  • Lead by example and set a professional tone for behaviour, supporting a culture of mutual respect.
  • Understand and comply with safeguarding requirements.

Hours Of Work

Minimum of 38 hours per week
