The role will include predominantly (9 PAs) providing senior medical input into the CTT within the Newcastle / North Tyneside localities.
The post holder will be joining a dynamic group of experienced medical and non-medical colleagues who are committed to working hard for the benefits of patients and their families. The post holder would provide senior expertise in the assessment and treatment of elderly patients referred to the team. You will be part of a team of consultants based at the Centre for Health of the Elderly, Campus for Aging and Vitality (CAV). This is also where you will have your office, secretarial support and where members of the wider multi-disciplinary team are based. The CTT and MAMS comprise Doctors, Nurses, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Support Workers. The CTTs provide a service to people with both functional and/or organic disorders and are able to work flexibly across geographical boundaries in response to workload pressures.
The configuration of senior medical staff will be regularly reviewed through team job planning to ensure that workloads are evenly balanced. The post holder will be part of the team leadership team. There are regular leadership meetings in the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities: The post holder is expected to demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellence in clinical care, in working effectively with multi-disciplinary in-patient teams and promoting the safety and wellbeing of the patients. The post holder is expected to respect the rights and the dignity of patients, to consider the individual and cultural needs of patients and to work with families and carers in the best interest of the patient (in line with the Trust Carers Charter). The Trust is constantly seeking to improve its services and to respond to changes in health care need and demand. This job description may be amended in light of changes to patterns or service delivery and the post holder should be flexible and open to changes that enhance patient care and will be expected to play a central role in developing these services.
The post holder should familiarise themselves with Trust Policies and Procedures and their practice should be compliant with these. The Trust is striving to have standard work for its senior medical staff and within the Multidisciplinary Teams with the view to have a consistent high-quality evidence based and safe approach to care on all its Inpatient sites.
Applicants should be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the point of interview. Candidates should be suitably qualified, including eligibility for Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status.
Person specification: Qualifications: MBBS or equivalent medical qualification, qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management, additional clinical qualifications, fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment, included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months, approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment, approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment, in good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience: Excellent knowledge in specialty, excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge, excellent oral and written communication skills in English, able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others, able to meet duties under MHA and MCA, wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning: Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training, ability to work in and lead team, demonstrate commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working to deliver improvement, participated in continuous professional development, participated in research or service evaluation, able to use and appraise clinical evidence, has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes, able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post, reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken, experienced in clinical research and/or service evaluation, evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications, has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients.
