An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Finance Team as a Finance Apprentice and begin a career in finance. You will support the effective running of the department across key areas including sales and purchase ledger, financial control, administration and financial management. We offer a competitive salary and a range of employment benefits, along with paid weekly study time during term time to support your Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification.

The successful candidate will have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or equivalent), including Maths and English, and strong organisational, time management and communication skills. You should also have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. This role will cover 37.5 hours per week, including 20% off‑job learning. As part of this apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to move into a permanent role with Cumbria Health upon successful completion.

Main duties of the job:
  • Act as a proactive member of the Finance Team, enabling capacity to be flexed to meet peaks in workload across the department.
  • Assist the Finance Officer with purchase ledger entries, coding and processing of supplier invoices, and review purchase ledger for accurate payment allocations.
  • Assist with the raising of sales invoices and review sales ledger for accurate receipt allocations.
  • Support completion of account reconciliations and maintain the nominal ledger for accurate reporting.
  • Post journals with the Management Accountant and Head of Finance, and learn how to produce monthly management accounts.
  • Analyse monthly figures to provide information to budget holders.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations and petty cash transactions.
  • Provide general support to the Finance team with day‑to‑day tasks.

You will be supported to plan, organise and manage your time effectively on a day‑to‑day basis, working as part of a team.
