About the opportunity

The Council’s Building and Depot unit sits within the City Services Directorate, focusing on the compliance, operational maintenance, and safety of fleet and building assets. The Fleet and Workshop Supervisor will be accountable for maintaining all council fleet and plant to a high standard, ensuring timely and safe completion of work, and leading efficient, cost‑effective, and customer‑focused procurement and reporting in line with council policies and regulatory fleet requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and supervise the council fleet and plant, ensuring compliance with RMS legislation and best practice.
  • Lead the mechanical workshop team, supervising servicing and maintenance of plant, machinery and heavy vehicles.
  • Manage procurement, asset maintenance programs, and reporting to meet industry best‑practice standards.
  • Embrace continuous improvement and change management within the workshop and fleet environment.

Qualifications

  • Trade Certificate in Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanics, Motor Mechanical or equivalent.
  • Significant experience working in a mechanical workshop environment.
  • Sound knowledge of RMS legislation and best practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large fleet (200 items).
  • Computer literacy, particularly the MS Office suite.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems for plant and machinery.
  • Experience supervising the servicing and maintenance of plant and equipment, including heavy vehicles.
  • Experience with a system of change and continual improvement.
  • Ability to work productively as a team member and contribute to team goals.
  • Leadership skills and experience supervising staff in mechanical maintenance and fleet areas.
  • Knowledge of RMS regulations for plant and equipment and experience with computerised plant maintenance programmes.
  • Class C driver’s licence.

  • Ability to provide information for pre‑employment checks and attend a required physical pre‑employment medical examination.
  • Participation in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position.

Salary and conditions

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award. Grade 13 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a weekly salary range of $ to $ plus 12% superannuation. Commencing salary will be negotiated based on qualifications, skills and experience.
