About this opportunity

Join our Public Protection & Housing Team and play a vital role in supporting the delivery of essential public services. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Environmental Health, you will act as team lead for those Officers in the Technical Clerk service and provide a broad range of technical and administrative support to professional officers across Environmental Health and Housing.

As Team Leader, you will support the Service Manager in the day‑to‑day management of the Technical Clerk Service and lead on essential business functions, such as data management, freedom of information requests, government data submissions, data retention and IT systems for the Environmental Health operational service areas.

This is a varied and hands‑on role where you’ll be at the heart of service delivery—handling enquiries, complaints, and applications while providing clear advice to customers through multiple channels. You’ll contribute to the effective management of data and systems, support performance monitoring, and assist with financial processes such as invoicing and payment tracking.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners, you’ll help drive service improvements, support key projects, and ensure accurate information is maintained for internal use and statutory reporting. You’ll also play an important role in keeping services running smoothly by supporting officers and managers as needed.

We’re looking for someone organised, proactive, and detail‑focused, with strong communication and IT skills and a commitment to getting things done to a high standard. In return, you’ll gain valuable experience in a fast‑paced, public‑facing environment where your contribution directly supports community wellbeing.

Qualifications and experience

We’re looking for individuals who embody our organisation’s core values: ambitious, collaborative, compassionate, empowering, and innovative. We believe in the power of these values to drive positive change, deliver excellent public services and shape a better future for our communities. We’re also about potential over perfection and we can help you grow in the role and thrive in your career.

Diversity, inclusion & reasonable adjustments

We’re dedicated to enhancing the diversity of our workforce and we encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds. That’s why we’re a proud Disability Confident Leader and also an Age Friendly Employer – to provide opportunities for everyone to thrive. If you need any reasonable adjustments to participate in the recruitment process, please let either the hiring manager or our Resourcing Team know by emailing Resourcing@Cumberland.gov.uk. While adjustments aren’t always guaranteed, we’ll always listen and we’ll try our best to accommodate your needs.
