Cumberland Council is looking for a dedicated and motivated Mechanical Sweeper Driver to join our Public Spaces team. This is a key frontline role that helps keep our communities clean, safe, and well-maintained. About The Role

As a Mechanical Sweeper Driver, you will lead and participate in mechanical street-sweeping operations across the district. You will play a vital part in ensuring that highways, footways, car parks, and public spaces are cleaned to a high standard, reflecting positively on both the service and Cumberland Council as a whole. This role involves both scheduled and reactive duties, and requires flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering excellent service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate mechanical sweeping vehicles to carry out street-cleansing activities across the district.
  • Deliver a variety of cleansing operations including sweeping, power washing, and litter picking.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with Council policies, legislation, and operational standards.
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement and work towards agreed performance targets.
  • Respond to emergency incidents such as flooding, RTCs, and hazardous spillages, including participation in out-of-hours rotas when required.
  • Maintain positive and professional interactions with the public and other service users.
  • Communicate effectively with managers and colleagues to support smooth service delivery.
  • Work flexibly across the wider Public Spaces service as required.
