About this opportunity

We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable HR Advisor to join our HR Advisory Team at Cumberland Council. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative HR team and consolidate your employee relations experience. You will work flexibly across Cumberland based in either Workington or Carlisle with some home working. You will play a key role in promoting best practice, educating and developing line managers, and ensuring alignment and consistency of HR practices across the council.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, accurate, and timely HR advice on policies, procedures, and employment law.
  • Support managers in handling complex casework, including disciplinary, grievance, and absence management.
  • Promote best practice and build capability through education and guidance.
  • Contribute to HR projects and policy development.
  • Analyse HR metrics and data to identify trends and recommend interventions.

About you

  • Ideally you have Associate Membership of the CIPD or working towards this. Experience HR professionals are also considered.
  • Some experience of advising on HR casework such as disciplinary, grievance and capability cases.
  • Strong generalist HR knowledge and experience across the employee lifecycle.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence stakeholders.
