About This Opportunity

Based within the Public Protection, Environmental Health Team, this role supports the delivery of private sector housing enforcement and housing standards services. You will provide advice and guidance to tenants, landlords and agents, investigate housing conditions and property management concerns, undertake inspections, and take appropriate enforcement action where required.

Salary: £39,481 to £40,444 per annum

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Carlisle

Contract: Temporary (12 months)

Based within the Public Protection, Environmental Health Team, this role supports the delivery of private sector housing enforcement and housing standard services. You will provide advice and guidance to tenants, landlords and agents, investigate housing conditions and property management concerns, undertake inspections, and take appropriate enforcement action where required. The role supports the Council's responsibilities in regulating the private rented sector, including housing standards, damp and mould, tenant protections, and compliance with current housing legislation and reforms. You will also contribute to wider environmental health and housing initiatives that improve housing quality, safety, and outcomes for residents. Renters' Rights Act 2025 reforms have strengthened protections for tenants and increased expectations on housing standards and enforcement within the private rented sector.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to undertake the Housing Enforcement Diploma over the next 12 months. This nationally recognised qualification will provide specialist knowledge and practical experience in private sector housing regulation, enforcement, and housing standards, supporting your professional development and career progression within Environmental Health and Housing Services.
