Salary: £15,453 (pro rata equivalent per annum)

Hours: 22 hours per week

Location: Carlisle

Contract: 12 months

We are looking for a reliable and customer‑focused Civic Centre Keeper to join our Facilities Team. This front‑facing role helps ensure the Civic Centre is safe, secure, and welcoming for staff, councillors, visitors, and the Mayor.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide daily security for the Civic Centre, including opening, locking, and responding to alarms.
  • Carry out basic building checks, minor maintenance, and safety inspections.
  • Deliver mail, manage meeting room setups, and support general janitorial tasks.
  • Assist staff, the public, and contractors, including during emergencies.
  • Perform ceremonial duties as Mayor’s Sergeant, supporting official events and managing the Mayor’s regalia.

About You

You’ll be dependable, practical, and confident working with the public. You’ll have good communication skills, a professional attitude, and the ability to handle a varied and hands‑on workload. Experience in facilities, security, or building services is helpful but not essential.
