Culture Guru is partnering with a multi-award-winning refurbishment specialist who, 25 years in, has built a reputation as a trusted partner across both public and private sector projects. Based in East London, they're looking for a hands-on, people-first HR Manager to join a busy, growing team and help take their HR function to the next level.

This isn't a sit-in-the-background HR role. Reporting directly to the Head of HR and supporting around 90 employees, you'll have a hand in pretty much every part of the people lifecycle – from a new starter's first day to the policies and payroll that keep the whole operation running smoothly. You'll be the steady, dependable presence managers trust to give a clear, confident answer.

With a real focus on improving processes and bringing in new systems, this is a brilliant opportunity for someone who likes rolling their sleeves up and helping shape how things are done.

What you'll be getting stuck into (but not limited to):

  • Partnering with the Head of HR on employee relations – disciplinaries, grievances, absence, and performance – guiding managers towards fair, consistent outcomes
  • Running recruitment end-to-end: advertising roles, shortlisting, interviewing, and issuing offers and contracts
  • Owning a smooth onboarding experience – right-to-work checks, references, and inductions for every new joiner
  • Processing in-house payroll accurately, including statutory payments such as SSP and maternity, plus benefits administration
  • Keeping employee records accurate, GDPR-compliant, and audit-ready, with contracts and policies always legally current
  • Supporting the annual appraisal and salary review cycle, and helping shape performance improvement plans where needed
  • Monitoring absence, managing long-term cases, and overseeing return-to-work processes
  • Producing HR reporting on headcount, turnover, and absence to inform business planning
  • Championing training and development, and keeping mandatory training records spot-on
  • Helping develop, embed, and continuously improve HR policies, processes, and systems (including a new HR portal/HRIS)

What we'd love you to bring:

  • Around 3–5 years' hands-on HR experience – practical know-how matters to us more than a wall of certificates
  • In-house payroll experience, comfortable with statutory pay (SSP, maternity and the like)
  • A strong, up-to-date grasp of UK employment law
  • Confidence running recruitment and onboarding without much hand-holding
  • Real discretion and professionalism – you treat sensitive information exactly as it should be
  • CIPD Level 3 (or above) is a lovely-to-have, but absolutely not a dealbreaker
  • Experience in construction or a similar SME/operational environment would be a bonus
  • A calm, clear communicator who builds trust at every level and can hold the line on policy with a smile

What's in it for you:

  • 20 days' annual leave (rising to 25 after a year, and 30 after five years)
  • Private medical cover after 6 months
  • Free onsite parking
  • The chance to genuinely shape and improve the HR function in a growing, supportive business

This is more than just a job – it's a chance to join a business that invests in its people, values diversity and inclusion, and gives you the room to make the role your own. Apply now with your CV and take your next step with a company that genuinely puts its people first.
