About the Role: Are you a driven professional with expertise in geospatial data and mapping, seeking a remote opportunity to contribute to impactful projects in the environmental and land management sectors? We’re searching for a self-motivated and detail-oriented GIS Technician to support our client in delivering high-quality forestry and natural resource projects. Working remotely as part of a collaborative team, you’ll contribute to a wide range of mapping and analysis tasks that inform on-the-ground decision-making and long-term planning. This role is central to the organisation, management, and visual presentation of data used in woodland planning, asset management, and strategic forestry initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess proven expertise in mapping, spatial analysis, consistently delivering clear and accurate outputs for both field and desktop applications. To succeed in this role, you'll need strong technical proficiency in GIS software, a methodical and organised approach to data management, and the self-motivation and drive to excel in a fully remote work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • To organise and present geographical data using maps, plans, and other visual tools
  • To produce mapping plans for woodland creation, restocking, and related applications such as FGS, WCC, and FPAT
  • To deliver clear and accurate maps for desktop use, with a general understanding of web and mobile mapping for site planning and presentation
  • To build and maintain reliable GIS datasets, ensuring data accuracy, cleanliness, and accessibility
  • To support the use of large-scale GIS and Excel-based databases for long-term forestry planning and valuation
  • To facilitate the integration of GIS with other tools to support data sharing and stakeholder engagement
  • To provide GIS support to colleagues to encourage consistent and efficient use across the organisation

Qualifications:

  • A GIS-related degree or equivalent experience in geographical data processing and management

Required Skills:

  • A minimum of 4 years in a GIS technician position
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to clients and stakeholders
  • Experienced in using GIS platforms such as QGIS and ArcGIS Pro, with practical expertise in geospatial analysis, data management, and mapping workflow
  • Highly experienced in creating clear, accurate technical reports and documentation
  • A collaborative team player who can work autonomously to achieve business needs
  • Highly organised and driven, able to manage own time and deadlines
  • Committed and dependable, with a strong dedication to delivering quality results
  • Proficient in IT and Microsoft Office, with knowledge of editing software (desirable)
