The Engineering Team Leader will drive improvements in production efficiencies, maintenance, and improvement programs. The role involves implementing best practices, team development, personal growth, and supporting the Engineering strategy.

Key responsibilities include (not exhaustive):

  • Uphold, develop, and deliver robust asset care through professional maintenance practices.
  • Report near misses when identified.
  • Ensure health and safety actions are completed.
  • Review downtime data and prioritize engineering support accordingly.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on machinery failures and implement long-term fixes.
  • Review current PPMs and align with manufacturer recommendations.
  • Support and develop stores and spare parts inventory, including critical spares, and control booking out of spares.
  • Maintain GMP and workshop standards.
  • Own toolbox audits.
  • Lead shift handover meetings and compile shift reports.
  • Plan and execute shutdown maintenance.
  • Support weekend planning and attend weekend meetings.
  • Deliver team briefs and business reports regularly.
  • Ensure proper attendance and punctuality of engineers.
  • Provide stand-in support for the Area Engineering Manager when needed.
  • Assist with engineering breakdown support.
  • Contribute to the engineering budget by delivering cost-effective maintenance.
  • Champion health and safety, ensuring safe working conditions for the team and others.
  • Ensure shifts are adequately staffed.
  • Create standard operating manuals for all equipment.

Scope: Manage the engineering team to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Recommended spares per production line for availability.
  • Engineer workload and development progress.
  • PPM compliance rate.
  • Effective use of the management system.
  • Reduction in site downtime as per targets.

Qualifications:

  • 18th Edition electrical certification.
  • Experience managing teams.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment is advantageous.
  • Completed apprenticeship; packing experience is desirable.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills.
  • Understanding of internal systems, health and safety requirements.

Management Skills:

Ability to work under pressure, both independently and in a team, with effective communication skills. Capable of making decisions and liaising with other departments.
