The main purpose of the role is to provide effective leadership and management of the residential home, ensuring the highest standards of care, safety and compliance in line with the home’s Statement of Purpose, Compass Community values, and regulatory requirements. The Registered Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the home, the leadership and management of staff, the care and outcomes of children and young people, and the overall condition, safety and operation of the premises. The role requires strong leadership, regulatory oversight and direct involvement where necessary to ensure positive outcomes for children and young people.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Day-to-Day Management of the Residential Home
- Ensure the home delivers high-quality care and consistently meets its Statement of Purpose, company vision, policies and procedures.
- Allocate roles and responsibilities within the home to ensure effective operation and best use of resources.
- Ensure all regulatory standards are met and that actions identified through audits or inspections are completed within required timescales.
- Participate in the recruitment and appointment of staff in line with Compass Community recruitment policies.
- Prepare and submit written reports as required and provide regular updates to the Line Manager on service performance.
- Attend and contribute to meetings relating to policy development, strategy and service improvement.
- Ensure all practice complies with relevant legislation, regulations and company policies.
- Liaise with other managers across Compass Community to seek advice, share learning and promote consistency.
- Participate in the organisation’s on‑call rota as required.
- Leadership and Management of Staff
- Plan and oversee the daily and weekly management of the home, ensuring staff fulfil their roles and responsibilities effectively.
- Undertake direct work with children when required, including transport, meetings and key work, particularly during periods of reduced staffing.
- Ensure children’s care plans are implemented in partnership with local authorities and relevant professionals.
- Establish and maintain clear practice guidance for staff in line with legislation and Compass Community performance management policies.
- Manage staff rotas to ensure safe, consistent and adequate staffing levels at all times.
- Work in partnership with HR to monitor staff performance, attendance and wellbeing, taking appropriate action where required.
- Management of the Premises
- Take responsibility for the maintenance, safety and presentation of the home in conjunction with the Line Manager and/or Head of Service.
- Ensure appropriate security systems are in place and functioning effectively.
- Ensure fire drills, fire testing and related records are completed and maintained.
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Compass Community Health and Safety policies.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend meetings, training and development activities as required.
- Contribute to creating and maintaining a positive, professional and supportive working environment.
- Demonstrate flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the service.
