Role Overview
The Senior Operations Manager plays a pivotal leadership role within Cubis Systems’ Tallington site, driving operational excellence, safety performance and continuous improvement across all manufacturing and site operations.
Reporting to the Director of Site Operations – Network Access Products, the role is responsible for ensuring operational activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with business objectives, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and high performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and promote a safety‑first culture, ensuring full compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards across the Tallington site.
- Drive operational excellence through achievement of key performance metrics relating to safety, productivity, quality, cost and delivery (OTIF).
- Provide leadership, direction and governance to ensure consistent application of operational standards, policies, procedures and controls.
- Support and challenge operational leaders to achieve business objectives while driving accountability and ownership across all manufacturing and site activities.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, capacity utilisation, productivity and overall operational performance.
- Lead the deployment of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, embedding a culture of waste reduction, process optimisation and data‑driven decision‑making.
- Drive process ownership, operational resilience and cross‑functional collaboration to ensure effective delivery of customer and business requirements.
- Leverage technology and digital solutions, including AI and automation, to streamline processes and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Develop strong inter‑site and inter‑company relationships to improve planning, collaboration and customer service performance.
- Deliver operational and financial targets through effective cost management, resource planning and profit & loss (P&L) accountability.
- Identify, evaluate and implement cost‑saving and value‑enhancing initiatives without compromising safety, quality or customer satisfaction.
- Lead and support strategic projects including automation, system implementation, capital investments and operational transformation programmes.
- Partner with Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, HR and Commercial teams to deliver business‑critical initiatives and drive sustainable growth.
- Coach, mentor and develop operational leaders and teams, building capability, succession pipelines and leadership strength across the site.
- Promote a culture of engagement, accountability, continuous learning and high performance.
- Translate the wider Cubis Systems Operations Strategy into actionable site improvement plans and measurable outcomes.
- Drive standardisation of processes, systems and best practices to improve consistency and performance across operations.
- Support business continuity planning, operational readiness and future growth initiatives, including capacity expansion and transformation activities.
- Act as the key operational link between the Tallington site and senior leadership, providing insight, governance and strategic direction to support long‑term business success.
- Demonstrate flexibility to support changing operational priorities, site requirements and business needs, including adjusting working patterns, supporting critical activities and maintaining a visible leadership presence across the operations as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Management or a related discipline.
- Considerable experience in a senior manufacturing or operations leadership role within a fast‑paced production/manufacturing environment.
- Recognised Health & Safety qualification is essential.
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma qualification is desirable.
- Proven experience leading site optimisation, operational improvement and business transformation programmes.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering measurable improvements in safety, quality, productivity, cost and operational performance.
- Experience managing and influencing cross‑functional teams and senior stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
- Strong experience working with ERP systems within a multi‑site and/or multi‑company manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading change, driving cultural improvement and embedding continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence principles.
- Commercially astute with a strong understanding of operational costs, budgeting and business performance drivers.
- Proven ability to analyse operational data, identify trends and implement effective corrective actions.
- Strong project management and change management skills, with ability to lead complex operational initiatives.
- Excellent leadership, coaching and people development capabilities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
- Experience leveraging technology, automation and digital tools to improve operational efficiency and performance.
- Experience in large‑scale site development projects would be advantageous.
