Mould Engineer – Tallington or Stoke-On-Trent. At Infrastructure Products Europe, Cubis Systems designs, engineers and manufactures network access products for infrastructure, utility and construction markets. We are part of the CRH Group and operate from multiple sites across the UK and Ireland, exporting to over 30 countries.

Role

Role Overview: The Mould Engineer is responsible for the design development, testing, and maintenance of moulds and tooling used in the manufacturing processes. This role ensures moulds operate efficiently, reliably, and meet product quality standards, while driving improvements in mould performance, cycle time, and cost effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design of new moulds (in partnership with supplier) or modify existing moulds based on product requirements and specifications
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing methods for mould construction
  • Prepare technical documentation including mould drawings, specifications, and maintenance reports
  • Ensure all moulds meet company and industry quality standards
  • Support engineering to develop standard procedures and best practices relating to mould design and tooling introductions
  • Introduce new techniques and technologies to improve efficiency and extend mould life
  • Tooling Introduction Project Management (NPI, Replacement & Optimisation)
  • Accountable for tooling aspects of NPI; manage project activities to control tooling delivery
  • All tooling replacements are managed within a stage gate process
  • Contribute to DIOPQ (Design, Installation, Operational and Performance Qualification) of tooling; participate in qualification gates
  • Provide on-site SME advice during IQ/OQ/PQ to optimise yield, weight, and cycle time
  • Manage Key Supplier Relationships
  • Liaise with international toolmakers to review and refine tool designs for quality, cost-effectiveness and manufacturability
  • Provide SME advice on Preventive Planned Maintenance (PPM) activities and assist in resolving mould-related issues
  • Collaborate with the quality team to address defects or non-conformances
  • Work with suppliers, toolmakers, and external vendors on mould fabrication and repairs including tooling tender packs
  • Collaborate with product design and manufacturing teams as SME in tool design
  • Contribute to training plans for production and maintenance teams on proper mould handling care
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the production environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience in one or more of low pressure / high pressure injection moulding / compression moulding
  • Proven experience with thermoplastic / thermosetting tool moulding processes
  • Strong knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and use of PDM. Mould flow simulation is desirable
  • Understanding of materials science, machining processes, and mould manufacturing methods with a focus on industry best practices for injection moulding and compression moulding
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
  • Desirable experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methods
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams including procurement, suppliers, design engineering & operations

This role is based at Tallington (GB) or Stoke (GB) site. Locality to these main tooling sites will reduce travel. The role may require travel to other sites and occasional witness of FAT testing (typically in China) for high risk/high value projects.
