Exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Finance – UK to join a dynamic team in a multi-national, growth-oriented organisation. Based in Cubico’s London head office, the role will report to the Head of UK with a functional reporting line to the Group Finance Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all activities related to finance, accounting and tax for the UK portfolio business, spanning the full asset lifecycle:
    • Operating assets: 18 onshore wind and PV assets located across the UK, 51% owned, with JV partner GLIL owning the other 49%;
    • Development assets: 2 assets in late-stage development and a feasibility pipeline of over 1.5 GW across onshore wind and PV technologies;
    • Construction: 47.5MW BESS project to be operational in 2027.
  • Manage a team of two operations accountants, ensuring quality and timely delivery of financial information and reports;
  • Manage the relationship with the JV partner, lead the financial reporting for the quarterly board meetings and respond to ad-hoc queries;
  • Manage long-term project finance agreements:
    • Manage the relationships with the Lenders and respond to ad-hoc queries;
    • Monitor compliance with information undertakings and maintain contract obligations such as bank guarantees and reserve accounts;
    • Manage the semi-annual update, submission and review of the project finance financial models and coordinate with Group Treasury team in the reporting of project finance metrics;
  • Actively monitor cash flow for all assets to ensure adequate liquidity, particularly with regards to debt repayments and preparation of liquidity forecasts;
  • Lead the preparation of the UK monthly operational reporting, quarterly development reporting and other financial reports to shareholders, management, JV partner and Group Finance;
  • Monitor monthly performance to budget, review material variances and provide relevant, high-quality financial commentary;
  • Implement Robust Development Budgeting and Reporting Framework by enhancing full transparency and financial control over development spend through an integrated budgeting and reporting framework within the internal system;
  • Lead the semi-annual valuation process for the UK portfolio, in compliance with the Investment Analysis & Strategy (IAS) in-house valuation guidelines;
  • Run ad-hoc valuation analysis to support business decisions;
  • Lead the UK annual budget and forecasting process;
  • Lead the processes for the preparation of statutory financial statements for the UK portfolio legal entities, in line with local legislation and FRS;
  • Lead the interaction with external and internal auditors, adhering to audit deadlines and ensuring that matters arising from audits are resolved in line with agreed timelines;
  • Preparation of monthly and annual tax filings (e.g. VAT, corporation tax, etc.) for all UK portfolio entities; liaise with external advisors and Group Tax Director in relation to tax planning and compliance issues including review of tax returns, tax claims, transfer pricing and tax audits;
  • Deliver tangible efficiency improvements across budgeting, valuation and monthly reporting cycles;
  • Define and implement local policies for finance, ensuring that there is a robust control framework in place, including minimum control standards as required by Group Finance;
  • Lead management of offtaker relationships and PPA portfolio oversight, while assessing and executing hedging strategies to optimise merchant exposure and enhance value;
  • Drive process efficiency/consistency across all UK assets and coordinate regional efforts towards global process standardisation;
  • Provide regular and ad-hoc management information and business support information as required;
  • Be part of the UK Management team, supporting establishment and implementation of local strategy for growth and value creation;
  • Support financial due diligence processes for new acquisitions as required.

Candidate Requirements

  • Be degree educated with ACA / ACCA (or equivalent) professional accounting qualification;
  • Have prior experience of working in either renewables or the energy industry;
  • Be technically competent with good knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP and financial concepts;
  • Have strong financial modelling experience;
  • Have managed project finance agreements;
  • Have experience of working in a fast-paced, international business;
  • Have excellent Microsoft office skills, particularly Excel;
  • Self-starter who can manage a full and varied workload and deadlines;
  • Proactive and pragmatic with a positive attitude and can-do approach;
  • Enthusiastic and able to take ownership of own work.
