The Senior Contracts Manager will lead contract management for complex, major systems agreements within the transportation technology sector. This role proactively anticipates, identifies and manages legal, financial and performance risks, ensuring Cubic minimises contractual exposure while meeting its obligations. Operating with significant autonomy, the role provides both strategic and day‑to‑day leadership, exercising sound judgement and decision‑making authority while engaging with senior stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on contractual risks, legal requirements and compliance standards.
- Develop contractual strategies that streamline processes, reduce risk and optimise commercial outcomes.
- Lead contractual responsibility for assigned complex, major systems contracts, typically fixed‑price, covering hardware, software, installation and associated services for public transit customers.
- Monitor contract deliverables to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Manage project change control and coordinate contractual activities in collaboration with Project Managers.
- Coordinate submission and negotiation of complex, high‑value contract proposals and change orders.
- Resolve contractual performance issues, including claims, changes and terminations, with minimal senior leadership intervention.
- Brief and advise management on contract and subcontract performance, risks and impacts.
- Review, draft and negotiate contracts, including terms, conditions and subcontract flow‑down requirements in line with Cubic policies.
- Manage variations from receipt through to closure, including approvals, price builds and participation in bid reviews and kick‑off meetings.
- Lead contractual responsibility for major proposals, RFP reviews, risk assessments and bid/no‑bid support.
- Monitor customer non‑performance and ensure Cubic is appropriately compensated for resulting impacts.
- Manage and mitigate claims from customers, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Review and improve internal contract management processes in line with policy and business needs.
- Liaise closely with Business Development, sharing market intelligence and supporting early engagement with customers.
- Supervise or direct junior team members within the Contracts function as required.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in collaboration with Cubic’s legal team.
- Contribute to Cubic’s strategic objectives and comply with all company values, policies and procedures.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing high‑value, complex commercial contracts across development, services, hardware and software environments.
- Strong experience in legal drafting, contract formation and contract delivery.
- Proven background in claims management, dispute resolution and negotiation of complex terms and conditions.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to deliver practical, risk‑balanced solutions.
- Ability to prioritise effectively and work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Desirable experience includes exposure to European and public sector procurement legislation, familiarity with transport or ticketing technologies, and a valid driving licence.
