Cubic is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver end-to-end systems engineering lifecycle projects, primarily within the UK Rail fare collection sector, with opportunities to support global initiatives. The successful candidate will operate within a matrix organisation, collaborating with diverse teams and customers, and will be responsible for managing projects across a range of lifecycle methodologies (linear, iterative, hybrid, and extended).
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex systems engineering projects, ensuring alignment with Cubic's strategic objectives and customer requirements.
- Lifecycle Management: Select and apply appropriate project lifecycle methodologies (e.g., linear, iterative, hybrid) to suit project context, risk, and customer needs.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with UK Rail industry customers and internal/external stakeholders. Facilitate effective communication, engagement, and influence to achieve project objectives.
- Matrix Working: Operate effectively within a matrix structure, coordinating cross-functional teams and resources to deliver project outcomes.
- Technical Oversight: Oversee technical delivery, ensuring systems engineering best practices are applied throughout the project lifecycle.
- Commercial & Financial Management: Manage project budgets, forecasts, and commercial contracts. Ensure projects are delivered within agreed cost, time, and quality parameters.
- Risk & Issue Management: Proactively identify, assess, and manage project risks and issues. Develop and implement mitigation strategies in line with APM best practice.
- Quality & Benefits Realisation: Ensure project outputs meet defined acceptance criteria and support the realisation of intended business benefits for Cubic and its customers.
- Continuous Improvement: Capture lessons learned and contribute to the maturity and continuous improvement of project management practices within Cubic.
Key Qualifications
- Demonstrable experience managing end-to-end systems engineering projects, ideally in fare collection or transport technology.
- Proven ability to work within a matrix organisation, leading cross‑functional and virtual teams.
- Strong technical understanding of systems engineering lifecycle methodologies (linear, iterative, hybrid, extended) and their practical application.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
- Commercial acumen, with experience managing contracts, budgets, and financial performance.
- Robust risk management capability, including identification, analysis, and mitigation of project risks.
- Experience delivering projects for or with UK Rail industry customers is highly desirable.
- Ability to support and contribute to global projects as required.
- Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Professional project management qualification (e.g., APM PMQ, PRINCE2, PMP) preferred.
- Membership of the Association for Project Management (APM) or similar professional body is an advantage.
