This role is responsible for managing and delivering on‑street Engineering and Civils projects for internal and external clients. Working within the Projects team and reporting to the Programme Manager, the role is accountable for all aspects of an associated schemes portfolio, from concept through to completion. The role works closely with the Capital Works Capacity Planning Manager to forecast future works, resource demand and delivery requirements, while also supporting the wider Capital Works team as required.
Key Responsibilities- Management of specific engineering and civils project works from concept through to completion.
- Identification, capture and progression of Capital Works, Supplementary Works and other opportunities.
- Ensuring that engineering projects are delivered to specification, on time and on budget, with contract changes and early warnings captured, managed and communicated effectively.
- Preparation of project progress and financial reports for internal and external customers.
- Preparation of interim certificates to customers and ensuring invoices from suppliers and contractors are processed correctly and in a timely manner.
- Liaison with internal and external customer Project Managers to develop and update the engineering and civils works programme.
- Preparation of quotations and variations for internal and external customers, including development of scope based on briefs, intelligence and innovation, in line with Cubic governance procedures.
- Completion of documented technical, financial and commercial reviews and financial sign‑off reviews.
- Ensuring works are completed to schedule and that billing is complete and timely.
- Ensuring site instructions and purchase orders are in place prior to works commencing.
- Performing documented site safety tours in line with site safety tour requirements.
- Production of regular project reviews, progress reports and Value of Work Done (VOWD) reports.
- Monitoring and control of subcontractors and suppliers through regular, documented progress meetings.
- Development and maintenance of project risk registers throughout all projects.
- Negotiation with customers, stakeholders and their agents regarding forthcoming works, road space, traffic management plans and permitting requirements.
- Ensuring factory, local and site acceptance testing activities are completed satisfactorily and results are recorded and communicated.
- Ensuring all project documentation required under Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations is collated and available for review, including health and safety file data.
- Compliance with Cubic values, policies and procedures, including code of conduct, quality, security, health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Qualified to HNC or higher in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent experience in a similar role and client environment.
- Strong client‑facing capability with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Primavera or equivalent project planning tools.
- Demonstrated experience using the Microsoft Office suite.
- Full driving licence.
- Desirable experience includes traffic signal installations and Highways Agency NMCS2 infrastructure, formal engineering or civils project management qualifications, PRINCE2 / MSP / PMBOK or equivalent, APM or CIHT membership, and knowledge of London transport services and products.
