About the Company

Our client is a globally recognised leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance heat exchange units and cooling modules, based in Shipley, West Yorkshire. A prominent supplier to major OEMs across the off-highway construction, agricultural, and engine power markets, they operate with full research, design, and development facilities on site. As part of a wider multi-billion dollar global group, they combine the resources and scale of a world-class organisation with the agility and community feel of a specialist UK manufacturer. This is a business where quality is genuinely valued at every level — and where your contribution will be seen, recognised, and rewarded.

The Role

We are looking for a driven and customer-focused Quality Engineer to join this well-established engineering team. You will play a central role in shaping and sustaining the quality culture, ensuring compliance with IATF 16949, and acting as the primary interface with customers on quality-related matters. The role involves APQP, PPAP, customer complaint management, and structured problem solving, with clear scope to progress into senior quality roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities in line with IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements, from concept through to launch.
  • Prepare, review, and submit PPAP documentation — including DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and capability studies — ensuring on-time approval and compliance.
  • Manage customer complaints and warranty claims, acting as the primary quality contact for assigned customers.
  • Apply structured root cause analysis (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa, fault tree analysis) to investigate internal and external quality concerns.
  • Define, implement, and verify effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving activities and Quick Action / containment meetings.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships through regular communication, performance reviews, and support for customer audits.
  • Support and lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including Approval to Ship processes and milestone tracking.
  • Review production processes using Genchi Genbutsu principles to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Analyse quality data and KPIs using SPC and statistical tools to reduce process variation and improve capability.
  • Liaise with suppliers on quality issues, including corrective actions and PPAP approvals.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong understanding and practical experience of IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems, including customer-specific requirements.
  • Proven hands-on experience with APQP and PPAP within an automotive or automotive-related manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer complaint management, including direct customer interaction and formal reporting (e.g. 8D).
  • Strong capability in root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Experience using core quality tools: FMEA (DFMEA / PFMEA), Control Plans, MSA, SPC, capability analysis, 8D, and 5 Why.
  • Minimum 5 years' background as a Quality Engineer, ideally within a Tier 1 automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment (pressed, injection-moulded, and cast components preferred).
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £45,000
  • Hours: Mon–Thurs 08:30–17:00 | Fri 08:30–13:30
  • Holiday: 25 days + 9 statutory bank holidays
  • Pension: Stakeholder scheme – 10% employee contribution
  • Life Assurance: 4x salary
  • Health Insurance: Permanent Health Insurance (PHI) cover
  • Parking: Free on-site parking
  • Canteen: Subsidised on-site canteen
  • Gym: Discounted gym membership
  • Retail Discounts: Discounts across 100s of UK retailers
  • Wellbeing: Employee Assistance Programme – mental, physical & financial support
