The Role
We are looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established engineering team, working on the design and development of complex mechanisms, machine systems and assemblies. This is a genuinely varied role that spans the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to supporting manufacturing, assembly and commissioning.
You will work cross-functionally across the business, liaising with Sales, Production and Assembly teams, and play a key part in driving design improvements and value engineering initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop new components, mechanisms and machine systems to meet project and customer requirements
- Adapt and refine existing designs to meet customer specifications and engineering standards
- Support manufacturing and assembly teams during machine build and commissioning
- Issue machine parts on SAP in line with delivery schedules
- Conduct design reviews, DFMEAs and PFMEAs
- Liaise with the Sales team to provide technical support for bids and proposals
- Create and maintain high-quality engineering documentation and customer records
- Identify opportunities for design improvement and value engineering
- Work in accordance with the highest standards of health, safety and engineering governance
Senior candidates will additionally take a lead role in engineering governance, change control, technical sign-off, and mentoring within the team.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Previous CAD experience, ideally Siemens NX
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Senior level additionally requires:
- Significant experience in mechanical design within a machine tool, special purpose machinery, or capital equipment environment
- Proven experience within formal engineering governance frameworks (design control, reviews, change management)
- High level of competence in GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Experience supporting assembly, commissioning and troubleshooting of complex machines
Salary & Benefits
- £40,000 – £45,000 salary depending on experience
