Shift Pattern

  • Wednesday to Saturday / Thursday to Saturday
  • Days: 8:30am to 8:30pm
  • Nights: 8:00pm to 6:00am

Pay Rate

  • Starting rate: £13.97 per hour
  • Opportunity to increase to £14.54 per hour after 12 weeks' service, subject to satisfactory performance.

Purpose of the Position

To ensure all tray sealing equipment within the High Care packing area is set up correctly and efficiently, maximising performance and minimising downtime. The Head Changer supports production teams by providing machine setup expertise, reactive fault resolution, and effective communication between Production and Engineering departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up tray sealing lines to optimum settings to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime.
  • Ensure production lines start on time and run smoothly throughout the shift.
  • Diagnose and resolve sealing head, sensor, and tray transportation faults.
  • Maintain sealing heads and associated machinery, ensuring they are cleaned, stored, and transported correctly.
  • Maintain tool inventories and ensure all tools are in good working order.
  • Communicate faults and equipment issues effectively to Shift Team Leaders and Engineering.
  • Manage the sanitising tunnel area, ensuring traceability while minimising production delays and packaging waste.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, food safety, and quality.
  • Complete start-up checks and ensure equipment is safe to operate.
  • Train deputies in accordance with SOPs and technical procedures.
  • Maintain GMP standards and ensure work areas remain clean and organised.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, legal standards, and BRC requirements.

Skills and Experience

  • Good literacy, numeracy, and computer skills.
  • Experience within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of GMP standards and food industry audits (BRC/EFSIS).
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience within a short shelf-life chilled food production environment.
  • Previous experience with tray sealing machinery.

Additional Information

As part of a small operational team, successful candidates may be required to undertake additional duties and support ad hoc business requirements as needed to ensure the smooth running of the operation.
