Are you a proactive and enthusiastic individual with experience in health technology assessment (HTA), health policy development, guideline development, or health economics and outcomes research? Do you want to play a key role in managing a portfolio of science policy and methods research projects that have a major impact on how NICE works?
We have vacancies for three permanent Scientific Advisers in NICE's Science Policy and Research team. The team has established a wide and growing portfolio of research projects to develop improved methods for health technology assessment and guideline development. These include multi-national projects such as ERA4TB, IDERHA, AD-RIDDLE, PREDICTOM, EDiHTA, READI, SUSTAIN-HTA, SYNTHIA, and ASSESS-DHT.
The post holder will initially work on one or more of our current projects but will also contribute to future research proposals. The team adopts a flexible approach, meaning that the specific tasks assigned to the post-holder may change in response to business needs, providing opportunities to learn about a wide range of hot topics in health technology assessment such as the use of real-world evidence, AI, synthetic data, and the evaluation of digital health technologies.
Interviews are expected to take place on 1st and 2nd July. Please note these roles can be based at either our Manchester (M1 3BN) or London offices (E20 1JQ).
The Scientific Advisers within the SP&R team are responsible for activities including:
- Conducting research, analysing data, and disseminating findings in collaboration with partners in the UK and internationally.
- Developing NICE responses to science policy issues, especially when new research findings or policy decisions require updates to NICE's policies or methods.
- Working with colleagues across NICE to identify and prioritise areas for methodological research.
- Promoting the implementation and adoption of research findings within NICE's methods and processes.
- Developing applications for research funding collaboratively with UK and international partners.
- Engaging with stakeholders and partner organisations.
The Science Evidence and Analytics (SEA) Directorate ensures NICE uses the best available evidence in its guidance to support health and care decision-makers. Although the Science Policy and Research (SP&R) Programme is part of SEA, it supports the entire Institute by undertaking methods research and influencing external policy partners on scientific issues related to NICE's work. The team aims to develop NICE's methods and encourages partners to commission relevant research.
