Our tax department is one of the largest outside the big four in Scotland, with a broad range of clients and an unwavering focus on helping our clients and people succeed. We are looking for an accountable and motivated Personal Tax Senior Associate to join our team. The role offers a clear path for growth and development, with the opportunity to contribute and work on a variety of complex and challenging technical assignments working collaboratively as part of a wider team of experts across the firm.

The Role

What you will do:

  • Responsibility for a portfolio of clients, taking ownership of the compliance process and associated administration; workflows, WIP and billing.
  • Income Tax return preparation and computation of tax liabilities.
  • Preparation of Capital Gains Tax computations.
  • Preparation of partnership tax returns and returns for trusts.
  • Supervising and reviewing junior staff in more routine compliance work.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc advisory projects, with a view to further development of these skills over time.
  • Drafting letters to clients, HM Revenue & Customs and third parties.
  • Telephone communication with HM Revenue & Customs and other third parties.
  • Involvement in client meetings.

Your profile

Who are we looking for:

  • At least 2 years’ experience within a tax department.
  • Ability to demonstrate technical competence across private client tax and/or unincorporated businesses.
  • A drive to increase tax-technical knowledge base across all areas of traditional private client, trusts and estates and unincorporated businesses.
  • A good level of numeracy, written skills and attention to detail.
  • A passion for client care and a willingness to take ownership of tasks.
  • A sound understanding of the key commercial drivers of the business.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues.
  • Interest in career development/progression.
  • ATT, or equivalent, is desirable and an ambition to complete CTA would also be preferred.
