As a Payroll Manager at CT, you will own your portfolio of clients, ensuring high-quality payroll processing from start to finish, completing payroll review work, and supporting the Payroll Senior Manager on business development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Payroll Director to maintain high standards of payroll compliance, operating procedures, quality, and client service.
  • Manage client relationships: onboarding, ongoing communication, and relationship development.
  • Prepare weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for a varied portfolio of clients, covering all aspects including Pension Auto-enrolment.
  • Conduct payroll reviews for senior associates and junior staff.
  • Perform BACS checks and submissions.
  • Resolve complex client queries.
  • Oversee client journals and conduct health-check reviews for external clients.
  • Manage due diligence and audit testing requirements.
  • Provide client service, including service calls, error management, cold-file reviews, and 3-month client reviews.
  • Coordinate with Managers, Partners and other departments within the firm.
  • Provide training, coaching and support to the payroll team.
  • Year-end compliance, training and performance appraisals (CFCs).
  • Approve holidays, overtime and support recruitment and staff promotion.
  • Represent as contact for the Bureau Managers Association.
  • Assist with CT payroll backup and other ad-hoc assignments.

Qualifications

  • Relevant client and people-management experience in payroll.
  • Alignment with CT’s purpose and values.
  • Demonstrated expertise: articulate subject-matter knowledge, high-quality advice, and fostering a positive team culture.
  • Professional qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Strong organisational, time-management and prioritisation skills.
  • Growth mindset and continuous desire to learn.

Location

The role is based in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness, with a fully dynamic working model allowing flexibility to work remotely or in-office as required for client meetings.
