Reporting to the CFO and supporting business managers and senior leaders (directors and partners), this hands-on, operational role offers the opportunity for a proactive professional to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the business and provide commercial insight to the business through data and reporting.
This role is for an initial 6-month fixed-term contract, with the potential for a permanent position. You will support the CFO and provide operational management of the internal finance reporting function, supervising and training the finance assistant to ensure financial records are processed accurately and efficiently. Responsibilities include:
- Operational responsibility for internal finance team and reporting, and managing finance team priorities
- Compliance with accounting standards and efficient operational delivery of tasks
- Supervise and develop the finance assistant to deliver accurate processing and support with monthly accounting tasks
- Prepare monthly reporting pack including all accounting adjustments and balance sheet reconciliations
- Become the go-to expert for the business practice management system (APS Advance)
- Inform decision making by supporting client-facing teams with departmental and business data/information
- Develop strong supportive relationships with client-facing teams and operational support function
- Credit control – ensuring our customers are paying on time
- Quarterly group VAT return
- Supporting with year-end consolidated statutory reporting
- Support CFO with change and business improvement projects
Candidate Profile
- Qualified accountant (ACCA, CA, CIMA, or equivalent) preferred
- Strong commercial and financial management background
- Excellent communication and business partnering skills
- Strong analytical and Excel modelling capability
- High level of ownership, collaboration and adaptability
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, and Xero. Working knowledge of Advance APS or other practice management systems would be advantageous
- Strong attention to detail
We operate a dynamic working model, giving flexibility in how and where work is carried out depending on team and business needs. Given the nature of this role, it would be expected that 3 days a week in the Edinburgh office would be required to be successful.
