To assess learners undertaking Health & Safety NVQ qualifications, ensuring assessments meet awarding body, regulatory, and internal quality standards. The role involves supporting learners through their qualification, assessing competence in the workplace, and maintaining accurate assessment records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess candidates working towards Health & Safety NVQ qualifications (e.g. Levels 3, 5, or 6).
  • Plan, conduct, and record assessments using a variety of methods, including workplace observation, professional discussion, questioning, and evidence review.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to learners to support progress and achievement.
  • Support learners in gathering appropriate evidence aligned with standards and assessment criteria.
  • Monitor learner progress and take action to address delays or barriers to completion.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure assessments comply with awarding body requirements, internal quality assurance (IQA) procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and auditable assessment records (paper-based or e-portfolio systems).
  • Participate in standardisation meetings, CPD, and quality assurance activities.
  • Respond to feedback from IQAs and external quality assurers (EQAs).

Professional Practice

  • Maintain occupational competence and current knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, standards, and best practice.
  • Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and data protection policies.
  • Represent the organisation professionally with learners, employers, and stakeholders.

Person Specification

  • Occupational competence in Health & Safety (e.g. experience in H&S advisory, management, or consultancy roles).
  • Recognised assessor qualification (e.g. CAVA, TAQA, A1, or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
  • CertIOSH Membership.
  • Relevant Health & Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate or higher).
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and workplace practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage own workload and meet deadlines.
  • Confident using IT systems, including e-portfolios and Microsoft Office.
