The Role
This is a strong opportunity for a Senior CAD Technician who wants to take real ownership of their work within a small, experienced design team. You will play an important role in supporting fabrication by producing clear, accurate drawings and technical details. The role is fully office based with no site visits, giving you the space to focus on quality design work in a steady, supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Technical Detailing: Produce high-quality, construction-ready CAD drawings, including general arrangements, elevations, and 2D/3D section details for fabrication and installation.
- System Development: Develop and refine curtain walling systems to meet aesthetic, thermal, structural, and acoustic performance requirements.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, main contractors, and suppliers to ensure design consistency, technical compatibility, and compliance with building regulations.
- Construction Support: Create fabrication drawings, bills of materials, and support installation teams with technical documentation and site-specific details.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs comply with industry standards (e.g., CWCT), building regulations, and safety requirements.
- Material Selection & Testing: Research and select appropriate materials (glass, aluminium, insulation) and define requirements for mock-ups and testing.
- Site Surveys: Conduct, or review, site surveys to verify measurements and ensure accurate design integration.
What They’re Looking For
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years in facade design, specifically focusing on curtain walling, rainscreens, and glazing systems.
- Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (essential), Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- System Knowledge: In-depth understanding of stick curtain wall systems, windows and doors including Reynaer, Aluprof, Wicona or similar high-end systems.
- Engineering Principles: Strong understanding of building physics (thermal, acoustic, waterproofing) and structural requirements.
- Regulations: Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, CWCT guidelines, and BS standards.
