We are currently seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for our Salisbury, NC plant.

Position Summary:

EHS Manager leads the on-going assessment, development, implementation, and sustainability of the site's Safety, Health, and Environmental systems. Responsible for ensuring site's EHS system meets the objectives of corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines. Works in conjunction with management team to sustain a safety culture emphasizing employee engagement built upon Operational Excellence.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Manage environmental, health, and safety activities through strong leadership, training, communication, and motivation.
  • Guide the development and implementation of Health & Safety policies and programs.
  • Coordinate and provide safety training for all employees in the areas of Safety, Fire Prevention, and Loss Control.
  • Administer New Hire Orientation Safety Training.
  • Investigate and maintain records for all work related injuries and/or illnesses, provide statistical analysis, and assist department management in the development of effective health and safety counter-measures to continuously improve safety objectives.
  • Oversee/Administer the Worker’s Compensation Program and implement an effective plan for minimizing and reducing worker injuries and associated costs in relationship to measurable data from State of North Carolina resources.
  • Ensure legislative compliance with OSHA, EPA, ADA, RCRA, DOT, Fire Codes, and serve as a liaison with area OSHA representatives.
  • Serve as co-chair on the Joint Health and Safety Committee and help to coordinate activities, recommendations, and accountability of issues identified by the JHSC.
  • Conduct routine workplace safety inspections and establish measurable standards from which further recommendations (continuous improvement) can be made, with effective follow-up.
  • Coordinate emergency evacuation procedures, training, and practice drills.
  • Environmental Responsibilities:
  • Air: Manage & coordinate the Title V Air Permit(s) for the Lenoir facility.
  • Land: Oversee spills management program, outside storage of materials, and landfill disposal management.
  • Water: Ensure all process water discharges to sanitary sewers is in compliance with state & federal regulations.
  • Hazardous Waste: Coordinate and manage hazardous waste program.
  • Coordinate recycling efforts of all recyclable scrap.
  • Direct services of contracted personnel.
  • Direct management team relating to EH&S issues.
  • Keep the HR Manager, Plant Manager and Director of EH&S up-to-date on matters relating to environmental, health and safety and other areas of human resources.
  • Directs, promotes and reviews programs relating to safety, quality and productivity in the division and recommends changes where desirable.
  • Performs workplace inspections and monitors compliance with all Health and Safety, ISO14001 and Corporate Health and Safety policies and procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to: leading safety talks, staff meetings, tailgate meetings, leading accident/incident investigation program, training new employees, correcting unsafe acts or conditions, and correcting or commending health and safety performance.
  • Establish safety goals and objectives; review of safety statistics and loss runs; lead formal management safety committee.
  • Serve as the ISO 14001 and Corporate Health and Safety Policies Management Representative.
  • Responsible and accountable for ensuring that environmental compliance is maintained by all facility team members.
  • Qualifications, Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related field of study. Knowledge of ISO 14001, Ergonomics, and risk assessment.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of Health, Safety, and Environmental experience, preferably in a Manufacturing (Molding/Assembly/Painting) facility.
    • Demonstrated strength with analytical/problem solving, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
    • Must have a strong working knowledge of Industrial Ergonomics.
    • Knowledge of ISO 14001, SDS and Environmental issues.
    • Ability to ensure compliance with all environmental standards and evaluate positive and negative environmental impact on the facility.
    • Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint programs.
    Work Environment:

    The work environment characteristics described here are typical to standard office setting with moderate noise levels and high level of activity. The work will mostly be in a climate-controlled environment with occasional work in plant/manufacturing environment. Occasionally the associate may be exposed to fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. Exposure to extreme heat or cold may be encountered. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Occasionally handling material up to 40 lbs. Must be able to travel from time to time including overnight, as required.
