CSN Autos is looking for a diagnostic technician - or a skilled vehicle technician who wants to progress into diagnostics, to join our workshop in Wymondham, Norfolk.

This isn't a "plug it in and swap the part the code says" job. We work to a structured diagnostic methodology: proving faults before fitting parts, using live data, oscilloscopes, and bypass testing to get to root cause. If you enjoy the puzzle - the why, not just the what, you'll fit in here.

How we work

We follow a defined diagnostic process on every job, and following it isn't optional. In short: establish the vehicle's history and change point first, road-test and replicate the fault before diagnosing it, confirm the electrical foundation, pull codes and check TSBs before forming theories, build a complete cause list rather than jumping at the first suspect, know what "good" looks like before testing, and prove the fault - bypass test, substitution, or measurement - before a single part is sold. After repair, the fix gets verified under the original fault conditions, and you'll be expected to explain why it worked, not just that it did.

Just as importantly, we structure jobs so you have the time to do this properly. After the initial assessment of a car, findings go to the customer and further diagnostic time is authorised before you go deeper - so you're never pressured into guessing because the clock ran out. Correct diagnosis takes time, and we build that into how we book work.

If that sounds like discipline you already work to, or discipline you want to learn, read on. If it sounds like unnecessary paperwork, then this isn't the job for you.

Who we're looking for

You'll be one of two people. Already a diagnostic tech - comfortable working faults from symptom to root cause, reading live data, and backing up your conclusions with evidence. Or a strong technician ready to step up - solid workshop experience, good with vehicle electrics, and hungry to develop into a diagnostic specialist. We'll train you.

Either way, you'll need:

  • The right mindset for diagnosis - methodical, patient, and honest about what you know and what you're assuming
  • Willingness to follow our diagnostic process - it's how we work, even for experienced diagnosticians
  • Critical thinking - you test theories rather than guess, and you can explain your reasoning
  • Proven workshop experience as a vehicle technician
  • Experience with vehicle electrics or electrical fault-finding
  • A working understanding of vehicle systems - engine management, networks, chassis and body electrics
  • A full UK driving licence

Bonus points for:

  • Main dealership background - Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, or Jaguar especially
  • Any formal diagnostic qualifications or additional diagnostic training (IMI Level 3/4, manufacturer courses, scope/electrical training, or equivalent)

What you'll get

  • £35,000–£42,000 depending on experience and capability
  • Monday to Friday only, 8:00am–5:30pm - no weekends
  • In-house mentoring - work alongside experienced diagnosticians on live jobs, following a proven, structured methodology
  • Funded training - we'll pay for courses and qualifications to develop your diagnostic skills
  • Modern equipment - dealer-level diagnostic tooling, oscilloscopes, and up-to-date kit
