Who Are CSL Looking For?
To be a successful QA Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing the quality assurance processes for the end to end solutions we are building, ensuring the functionality, security, usability, and performance of our products across all of the component systems (devices, platform business systems, user facing tooling etc) meets or ideally exceeds the acceptance criteria, definitions of done, standards and customers expectations. Ultimately our QA Engineers are responsible for ensuring the highest quality of our products and services are delivered to our customers demonstrating the outcome goals of critical, secure and live solutions. We are after more than just testers at CSL - while Testers focus on detecting issues, we are specifically after QA Engineers who can collaborate and work proactively to prevent them and improve overall quality for our customers.
The Role:
QA Engineers play a crucial role in testing and quality assurance for CSL’s systems, products, and services. This includes ensuring test coverage, end to end solution testing, automation of testing, integration within CI/CD pipelines, and conducting manual testing within specific business and technology domains. The role involves collaborating with peers and supporting colleagues such as Business Process Owners, Product Managers, Software Engineers, Solution Architects, and DevOps Engineers to maintain and enhance platform quality. While automation is the long-term goal, hands‑on testing remains essential. As a Mid-Level QA Engineer, you’ll be responsible for implementing test approaches, supporting the development and implementation of quality strategies plus the associated frameworks and routinely undertaking manual and automated testing activities with the aim to automate as much as possible. You’ll spend time reviewing and supporting Software engineers in creation and utilisation of unit tests to improve our unit test coverage. You will also be likely to be involved in the device hardware testing, ensuring functionality, durability, and compliance with required standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
This role will encompass a range of responsibilities including but not limited to:
People
- Able to work in close partnership with and under the guidance of others – Heads of Engineering, Solution Architect, Technical Programme Manager, Engineering Leads and other QA Engineers to align testing activities.
- Provide technical insight and support for other QA Engineers where needed.
- Participate in unit test reviews with Software Engineers to improve test coverage.
- Work within cross-centres of excellence multi-skillset teams to ensure smooth integration of testing into the development cycle and that its considered from Discovery onwards.
- Communicate testing updates and identified issues clearly to relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to team development, offering guidance to other QA Engineers as required.
Process
- Provide frequent and accurate updates on ticket progress, expected timelines, work level outstanding, dependencies, risks, issues and duration spent to Delivery Programme Managers.
- Collaborate with Software engineer, Product Managers and DevOps Engineers to ensure comprehensive test coverage throughout the backlog and implementation lifecycle.
- Support the creation and implementation of wider reaching and end to end test strategies at a product and roadmap level (for example large scale performance testing).
- Assist in defining and responsible for implementing automated testing approaches for efficiency.
- Stay informed about advancements in testing methodologies via attending conferences and learning activities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of QA processes, testing frameworks, and aligning these into engineering best practices.
- Work and collaborate closely with Software Engineers to improve quality before defects arise.
- Support release and unit test validation and wider testing efforts, ensuring readiness for deployment.
Technology
- Conduct exploratory, regression, functional, non-functional, and usability testing to validate performance.
- Perform hardware and device testing, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Design and undertake manual and automated test activities for functional and non-functional requirements.; considering within release, backlog items and wider end to end scope. The aim being to automate as much as possible into the CI and CD pipelines to facilitate continuous regression testing.
- Scope, develop and implement end-to-end test plans for signalling-wide updates and feature releases based on the committed plan and key initiatives.
- Document testing outcomes, producing clear and concise reports on product test coverage.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and validate bugs and system issues sharing with Engineers.
Key Skills & Qualifications Sought:
- Proven hands‑on experience in software / hardware testing and achieving quality assurance. · Analytical thinking, balancing business needs, technology constraints, and user experience.
- Knowledge of testing automation and defect tracking tools, understanding their role in Agile environments.
- Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to troubleshoot and refine test strategies.
- Strong communication skills, capable of collaborating across teams and explaining technical concepts.
- Continuous learning approach, keeping up to date with new technologies and methodologies.
