Complex Wound Nurse Specialist in Woking

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled nurse with a passion for wound care to play a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care within our community complex wound clinics.

Main Duties

• Manage a defined caseload of patients within the Complex Wound and Leg Ulcer Clinics.
• Deliver specialist wound care services across community clinics, residential homes, and other community settings.
• Act as the named Senior Staff Nurse for the Complex Wound and Leg Ulcer Clinics.
• Attend and contribute to relevant meetings, service developments and training events across CSH Surrey.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with GPs, practice nurses, social care professionals, acute and community hospital colleagues, local authority teams, and voluntary sector partners.
• Participate in clinical supervision, peer review and continuous professional development activities.
• Provide leadership, guidance and clinical support to nursing colleagues and wider team members.
• Teach, supervise and mentor staff, apprentices and pre‑registration nursing students.
• Undertake formal student assessments and contribute to creating and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Ensure care is delivered in accordance with CSH Surrey policies, procedures and professional standards.
• Clinical and Technical Responsibilities
• Undertake full nursing assessments of patients, including those with multiple pathology and complex health and social needs.
• Provide Doppler assessment to patients and provide teaching to junior co‑owners.
• Agree patient care plans, liaise with others and adapt care and treatment according to need and patient choice.
• Use and maintain appropriate aids and equipment for patients and carers, ensuring standards of infection control and safety.
• Order and manage dressings and other equipment stock.
• Communicate consistently with all patient care stakeholders, including out of hours, using mobile phone and email.
• Analytical / Judgmental Skills
• Recognise own limitations in clinical care and urgency of patient needs, refer to appropriate professionals and take accountability for actions without direct supervision.
• Maintain accurate, legible patient records in line with professional and organisational requirements.
• Make autonomous clinical decisions in planning and prioritising patient care, including referrals and admission/discharge.
• Other Responsibilities
• Participate in clinical audit, research and development projects and contribute to improvement plans.
• Support senior staff to ensure adherence to CSH Surrey policies, procedures and guidance.
• Ensure confidentiality at all times, complying with the Data Protection Act.
• Promote equality and diversity and involve patients and carers in decisions about their health.
• Attend staff meetings, maintain own training and supervise team members through appraisals and reviews.
• Undertake any other duties that facilitate the smooth running of the service.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (current 1st level registration).
• Degree in a relevant health care discipline (or working towards).
• Evidence of formal training, post‑registration experience or qualification within wound care.

Desirable Qualifications

• Educated to Degree or Master level.
• Completion of Physical Assessment Module.
• Registered nurse prescriber (DN V100).
• Experience as a mentor.

Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
