CSH is looking for motivated and caring Band 3 Podiatry Assistants to support our Podiatry team in delivering high-quality foot health care across community, clinic and hospital settings. You will assist with routine clinical tasks, patient preparation, basic foot care, equipment setup, and maintaining safe, clean clinical environments. The role also includes administrative duties such as updating patient records, supporting the appointment process, stock ordering and contributing to audits and service improvement. You will work under the supervision of registered Podiatrists and provide compassionate patient-centred support. Full training and supervision will be provided. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, is passionate about patient care and is looking to develop skills within the Podiatry profession.

Main duties of the job:

  • To assist podiatrists to carry out footcare and health promotion activities to maintain or improve health, independence and quality of life.
  • Undertake delegated clinical tasks such as basic nail care, skin care and wound care preparation within scope of practice.
  • Organise and assist in nail surgery, including clerical duties and monitoring of patients during the procedures.
  • Prepare clinical rooms, equipment and materials in line with infection prevention and control standards.
  • Monitor and restock consumables and maintain cleanliness of clinical areas.
  • Undertake home visiting of patients assessed as suitable by the podiatrist.
  • Assist with appointment booking, patient records and data entry using electronic clinical systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with trust policies and professional standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Podiatry team and wider multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Attend mandatory training and engage with ongoing learning to expand knowledge skills relevant to the role.

Job responsibilities:

  • To work as an integral member of the podiatry team, providing a high standard of foot care to a pre-assessed caseload of patients.
  • Provide and promote holistic patient/person-centred care and support, demonstrating duty of care and safeguarding of individuals.
  • Take a detailed patient history.
  • Follow a stepwise and holistic approach to patient assessment.
  • Communicate clinical findings accurately and reliably to patients, carers, and health care professionals, using structured protocols and maintain accurate records.
  • Appropriately refer patients to members of the wider healthcare team to maximise outcomes for patients.
  • Assist in wound care clinics, including clerical duties and changing dressings, pre-agreed by the supervising podiatrist.
  • To undertake defined administrative responsibilities e.g. stock ordering for the department, orthotics, ordering and dispatch, collating audit data.
  • Demonstrate competence in a range of relevant technical and administrative procedures relevant to their role boundaries and scope of practice.
  • Maintain a safe clinical environment in clinical and domiciliary settings.

Person Specification:

  • Ability to carry out physical aspects of the role.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Able to perform fine motor skills - intricate work requiring precision hand-eye coordination.
  • Insight into how to reflect and evaluate own strengths and developmental needs.
  • Ability to travel around the locality as requested, independently and efficiently.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Previous experience of working in healthcare environment.

Qualifications:

  • Five GCSE's to include Maths, English and Science.
  • Functional skills level 2- Maths and English will also be considered.
  • Level 3 study, for example one of the below: Access to HE Diploma Pass with 60 credits.
  • Car Driver (Full Licence).
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
