This role is for a Healthcare Assistant on a dynamic, fast‑moving Rehabilitation ward at Woking Community Hospital in North West Surrey. The ward provides continuous care to patients who need rehabilitation and support before returning to their chosen place of residence. The position offers an opportunity to acquire and develop a range of clinical and professional skills, and requires working days and nights on a rota basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the ward team in delivering high‑standard patient care, promoting the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of patients.
- Act as an effective member of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team, carrying out both direct and indirect care tasks under the supervision of senior staff.
- Deliver direct personal/nursing care throughout a 24‑hour, 7‑day ward setting.
- Perform non‑clinical tasks that contribute to the smooth running of the ward, such as housekeeping, transport and basic assistance.
- Maintain legible, accurate records of all patient interventions and management in line with organisational standards.
- Recognise and report any situations, behaviours or errors that could lead to poor care outcomes.
- Protect vulnerable adults by following established procedures.
- Support patients in improving and maintaining their mental, physical, behavioural health and overall wellbeing.
- Carry out clinical observations and assessments, including: Blood pressure, pulse and respiration rate; Recording observations on a National Early Warning Score chart; Urine testing and blood glucose monitoring; Taking swabs and collecting specimens; Managing stoma and urinary catheter care.
- Participate in personal and performance reviews to identify training needs and pursue continuing professional development, attending statutory and mandatory training as required.
- Adhere to CSH policies, including Uniform, Zero Tolerance, infection control, waste disposal, and universal precautions.
- Complete required CSH competencies applicable to the role.
Required Experience
- Recent experience delivering direct patient care.
- Minimum one year of UK‑based or equivalent experience in the healthcare sector.
Desired Experience
- Experience working within a ward‑based environment.
- Experience with older adults who have mental health needs.
- Experience working alongside physiotherapists and/or occupational therapists.
Required Qualifications
- English Language and Mathematics GCSE, or an equivalent literacy and numeracy qualification.
