Role Description
Salary £40k-£55k depending on experience. Private health care, flexible working and other benefits.
This is a full-time, on‑site/hybrid Family Law Solicitor role based in Edinburgh and Galashiels.
The solicitor will manage a caseload of family law matters, including separation, divorce, financial settlements, child contact, residence, and related child protection issues.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities include advising clients, drafting legal documents and correspondence, preparing court papers, and representing clients in hearings and negotiations.
The role also involves liaising with counsel, social work, and other relevant agencies, maintaining accurate file management and compliance with regulatory requirements, and contributing to the development of best practices within the family law team.
The solicitor will engage in client meetings, advocacy, and ongoing professional development to stay current with changes in Scottish family law.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in Family Law, with the ability to manage a varied family and child protection cases
- Qualified solicitor, ideally with admission in Scotland, and experience in Sheriff Court and other relevant Scottish court procedures.
- Excellent advocacy, negotiation, drafting, and client communication skills, with a calm and empathetic approach to sensitive situations.
- Attention to detail, and ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities in a busy practice.
- Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and continued legal education, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
