About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Design & Technology Technician to join our busy, dynamic department. In this vital role, you will ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient day-to-day running of our workshops, directly supporting teaching and learning. From preparing materials for a diverse curriculum to maintaining high-spec machinery, your technical expertise will help students bring their designs to life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons. You will assist teachers and students during practical activities, demonstrations, and help manufacture teaching aids or prototypes.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment servicing and inventory. You will manage stock levels, order consumables, and keep workshops, preparation areas, and storage facilities organised and tidy.

About You

You are a highly organised technical professional with a passion for making, fixing, and creating. Whether your background is in education, engineering, or trade workshops, you bring a positive, adaptable attitude and a strict commitment to safety and the safeguarding of young people.

Your Skills & Experience:

  • Machinery & Tool Expertise: Competent in the safe use and maintenance of metalworking machinery and timber/woodworking equipment, alongside standard hand tools.
  • Material Processes: Experienced working with a range of plastics and polymers and possessing a strong overall understanding of wood, metal, and plastic manufacturing techniques.
  • Digital Manufacturing: Proficient in operating and maintaining 3D printers and laser cutters, including machine setup, troubleshooting, calibration, and utilising CAD/CAM systems.
  • Technical Interpretation: Ability to manufacture prototypes, models, and project components directly from technical drawings and design specifications.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently to manage competing priorities, and a proactive approach to supporting a busy school environment.
